In partnership with the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), the University of Colorado welcomes proposals for translational quantum research seed grants. Seed grants are open to any Colorado research institution and industry partners. The goals of the programs are to incentivize innovations launched out of the lab and help them along the development path to new programs and businesses.

A new project led by Scott Diddams (Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering)鈥攁warded $1M award from the W.M. Keck Foundation鈥攚ill explore the feasibility of creating a frequency comb detector to synchronize the world鈥檚 existing infrared telescopes and make them more precise.

Scientists on a new project led by CU Boulder will develop 鈥渨orlds in a box鈥� to study the conditions that might make far away planets habitable. The research team鈥攑art of NASA鈥檚 Interdisciplinary Consortia for Astrobiology AV名湿 (ICAR) program鈥攚ill be led David Brain (LASP, Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences).

Kirk Ambrose of the Department of Classics and Rebecca Safran of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology have been recognized with 2023-24 Distinguished AV名湿 Lectureships.

The new grant will fund the JILA Physics Frontiers Center for six more years and seeks to spur collaborations among a wide range of scientists鈥攑otentially paving the way for new discoveries around everything from the behavior of the humble electron to complex molecules.

The AV名湿 & Innovation Office (RIO) has opened RIO Faculty Fellows 2024 cohort applications, which will be accepted through October 23. Selections will be announced in November.

Gary Henry鈥攈ead of the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) within the AV名湿 & Innovation Office (RIO) since 2021鈥攚ill transition into the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor for AV名湿 Management and will serve as the Interim Executive Associate Director for LASP Finance and Operations. Ruzzene also appointed Alexa Van Dalsem to the post of Interim Director of OCG. In this role, she will also join the RIO Leadership Team.

A new NSF-funded center will examine the potential for sound to revolutionize computing, communications, sensing disease in human tissue and more. Massimo Ruzzene, vice chancellor for research and innovation and dean of the institutes at CU Boulder, is a co-PI on the project.

Thanks to this funding, JILA researchers and scientists will be able to complete much needed renovations鈥攅quipping this facility with the tools needed to remain a leader in their field."
