Now in its 12迟丑听year, the AV名湿 & Innovation Seed Grant program鈥攄esigned to stimulate new areas of research and creative work on the University of Colorado Boulder campus鈥攊s accepting proposals through Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.听

Additionally, the听AV名湿 & Innovation Office听(RIO) is hosting a听Nov. 29 workshop听to help submitters strengthen proposals well in advance of the January submission deadline.听

AV名湿 & Innovation Seed Grants support projects that take investigators in creative, and sometimes high-risk, high-reward directions including team development proposals for future large collaborative research projects. Proposed听projects may take a variety of forms and will represent an investment in the future research, scholarly, or creative vitality of the university.

Proposals will be accepted in the following categories: Arts & Humanities, Basic Physical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering & Applied Sciences, Geological & Environmental Sciences,听, Social Sciences & Professional Schools,听and the 2019 Special Category for Center Planning Grants.听

Center Planning Grants awards will fund multidisciplinary teams to work on promising research directions where internal seed level investment can lead to externally funded center-scale research programs.

Previous funded projects include those from Critical Media Practices, Engineering, Geological Sciences, Integrative Physiology, Sociology and Theatre & Dance, among many other disciplines. A complete list of previous seed grant recipients and funded projects is available on the听AV名湿 & Innovation Seed Grant webpage.

Seed grant projects have been remarkably successful in attracting follow-on funding outside of the university, with 41% of seed grant projects from 2016 and 2017 securing additional funding from external sources. These sixteen projects received a combined $744,014 in seed grant funds, and a reported $7.4 million in subsequent funding, equating to almost $10 in outside funding for every $1 invested in these projects.

Submit your proposal by Jan. 22

If you are developing an innovative research project that represents an investment in the scholarly or artistic vitality of CU Boulder, RIO welcomes you to听submit a proposal. Faculty from across disciplines will be judged in categories designed to allow all disciplines an opportunity to compete successfully, even if the discipline is not traditionally connected to sponsored research.
