Supervisor:ÌýJeremy Darling

Job:ÌýIdentifying absorption lines in the Lyman-alpha forest

Job Description:ÌýCosmic acceleration due to dark energy causes the redshifts of objects in space to slowly change over time, an effect known as secular redshift drift. We study absorption lines in the spectra of distant quasars to develop a direct measurement of cosmic acceleration through secular redshift drift. In this project, you will use quasar spectra from the Keck Observatory Archive to identify and determine the redshift of absorption lines in the Lyman-alpha forest.Ìý
