Fall Welcome is the official welcome to campus for new students and a welcome back to campus for continuing students. We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to make this a smooth and exciting experience for our campus. Fall Welcome starts Aug. 18Ěýand continues through Sept. 6.

Please sign up below by selecting one or more time slots; most volunteers select two or three opportunities to help. Assist us by spreading the word and encouraging your fellow Buffs to volunteer with you!


Move-in volunteer roles

  • Swag Distribution—Greet students while distributing welcome bags and class t-shirts! This role could be seated or standing, depending on the volunteer’s preference, and in most cases, itĚýwill be outdoors under a tent. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and willing to pull students into conversation and help create a fun, exciting atmosphere during check-in.
  • Hall Greeter–Welcome arriving students and families by directing them to the designated check-in tent location. Help students find the hot spot in their hall and explain how the hot spot process works.
  • Elevator Operator—Support operations by staffing the elevator while it is on manual control. Ensure the efficient loading of the elevator and take the student to the correct floor. This role will primarily be standing for the duration of the shift and will be inside or near an elevator.
  • Golf Cart Shuttle (open to CU staff and faculty only)–Shuttle visitors from parking structures to residence halls and answer questions while providing a welcoming environment. Must have a valid driver’s license and have taken the online Defensive Driving training.
  • Luggage Cart Check Out and Recycling—The primary function of this role is to help ensure that luggage carts are available for arriving families.ĚýLuggage cart volunteers, when possible, will work in pairs to walk through residential corridors to round up luggage carts and return them to the check-out locations. While making rounds of the buildings, volunteers may also—Provide event support and engage with students, assist vendors, helpĚýs and corridors and take them to recycling locations. This role will primarily be functioning indoors and requires walking, climbing stairs, and standing for the duration of the shift.
  • Traffic and Parking Support—Help direct traffic and help new students, their families and guests find the appropriate parking lot.Ěý

Signature event volunteer roles

  • Be Involved Fair–Help bring the fair to life! Check-in organizations, greet participants andĚýassist with chalking and sign placement.
  • Buff Orientations (Graduate, International and Transfer Students)–Assist with check-in. Volunteers will help with movingĚýboxes, arranging supplies, handing out t-shirts, checking people in via an app or answering questions about the schedule or campus life.
  • Buff Stops–Help new Buffs navigate their first day of class by answering questions, handing out campus maps and providing directions.
  • CU Kickoff–Assist with student traffic flow to appropriate sections for seating. Support student questions and directions to the restroom or other associated needs.
  • CUnity Fest-Help with either set-up or take-down operations and moving tables and chairs.
  • I Love Mondays: First Day of School Photos—Get students excited for the first day of school! Support students and event staff through various roles.
  • Meet Me at the UMC/Village Center–Assist with line management, greeting attendees, set up and/or clean up (moving tables and chairs, activity set up, etc.) and staffing/facilitating activities (performers, bingo/trivia, crafts, etc.).
  • Neighborhood Block Parties–Assist with line management, wristband distribution and waiver checks, set up and/or clean up (moving tables and chairs, activity set up, etc.) and staffing/facilitating activities (friendship bracelets, tie-dye t-shirts, etc.).
  • Spirit Night—Provide event support and engage with students, assist vendors, helpĚýmanage lines and answer student questions.
  • Welcome to Our Herd—Help seat students according to college, encourage student participation and energy during the event, andĚýdirect student traffic as the event concludes.
  • WelcomeFest Concert–Distribute wristbands, check tickets at entry, monitor perimeter fencing and monitor the crowd for safety concerns.

For signature event volunteers, directions will be provided when you arrive at your volunteer shift.

  • All volunteers will check in at the Headquarters tent in their designated volunteer area.

Need to cancel a shift?

For CU Serves users who would like to cancel a registration:Ěý

  1. Log into your CU Serves account.
  2. Click “My Activity,” located on the top right of the portal.
  3. Select “Registrations.”
  4. Press the list mode to find the registration.
  5. Identify the event you want to cancel and navigate to the right of the registration to find a drop-down menu.
  6. Click the drop-down menu and click “Cancel Registration.”
  7. A pop-up will appear for you to confirm the cancellation; click “OK.”
