Dear Strategic Resources and Support team,
I am writing to thank those of you who have already taken the Faculty and Staff Engagement Survey, and to urge those of you who have not yet taken it to please find the time to make your voice heard in the coming days. You should have received an email invitation from admin@ajgsurveys.com on Monday.
Why the survey matters
I’m grateful to the dozens of you (more than 100 people in March alone) who have taken the SRS pulse surveys since we launched them in January. Just as hoped, they are giving me valuable in-the-moment insights into how you’re doing. CU Boulder is a big, complicated place, and your feedback helps me understand where we’re doing well, where we can improve, and how decisions are affecting you. But these are not a comprehensive look at how we’re doing.
The Faculty and Staff Engagement Survey goes deeper, providing statistically significant data that will inform our efforts to continually enhance how we engage and care for our employees in a number of ways:
- This is the first time we have conducted the survey since we emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic. We know the workplace and your relationship to it have changed. We want to know how these changes have impacted you.
- We will compare this data to past engagement surveys in 2017 and 2020 to measure our progress, assess the impact of leadership actions, and evaluate trends that will enable us to better understand your needs.
- We will use the data from the survey – both campus and unit level data – to help inform how we invest in employee engagement, retention and well-being going forward. These results will not sit in a binder. They will guide our planning and actions.
Take the survey. Win prizes
If you haven’t taken the survey already, look for it in your inbox. I also expect supervisors to make time for your employees to take the survey and provide assistance for those who may not have frequent access to computers while at work.
You can learn more about the survey on the Human Resources website. And don’t forget that those who take the survey this week and next will be .
Other SRS news and notes
- Pulse survey: Speaking of pulse surveys, we are pausing them for this month to prioritize your energy toward the engagement survey.
- April stress relief: I know April can often be a stressful month for many on our SRS team with a rush of events and deadlines related to the end of the academic year. I ask that you look out for each other and remind you of the wealth of resources related to stress reduction and mental health available to all of us through Health and Wellness Services.
- SRS Staff Appreciation Event: Save the date on Thursday, May 18 from 3-5 p.m. at the UMC Connection for our spring SRS employee appreciation event. Keep an eye out for an email invitation soon.
- Commencement volunteering: As the chancellor noted in his email on Tuesday, one great way to connect to our mission as a university is to attend and/or volunteer to help with Commencement activities May 11-13. If your schedule allows, I hope each of you will take part in this celebration. When students earn their diplomas, hundreds of people in SRS have contributed to their success. I am grateful for all that you do that empowers our students to succeed and chart their futures.
- Campus Sustainability Summit: The 30th annual Campus Sustainability Summit is slated for April 19-20, with multiple SRS units playing a role.
Thank you for all you do for our university.
Sincerely,
Pat

P.S. April offers a wealth of opportunities to engage in campus life. Don’t forget to “stamp” your Employee Passport each time you do, including volunteering at, or attending, Commencement.
