Ingredients

For the rolls

  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1 cake compressed yeast or 2 1/4 teaspoon dry
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 3/4 cup flour
  • 3 well-beaten eggs

For the onion filling for half the dough

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup (1 lg) finely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoons sesame seed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Directions

  • Heat milk.
  •  Add salt, butter, sugar and yeast.  
  • Stir until the yeast is dissolved.  
  • Stir in eggs and half the flour.  
  • Add the rest of the flour.
  • Let rise 2 hours until doubled in bulk.
  • Divide in half.
  • Using plenty of flour on board, pat out a 12" circle.
  • Butter it.
  • Cut into 16 pieces, like spokes in a wheel.
  • Roll each piece from the outside in.
  • Place on a baking tray.
  • Do the same with the 2nd half of the dough, using the onion filling instead of plain butter.  
  • Let rise until light (1 hr)
  • Bake at 375 F. until lightly brown, about 10 minutes.
