To commemorate Earth Day, the CU flute studio will present .Ìę
Featured selections include music from a variety of composers including Valerie Coleman, Jennifer Higdon, Toru Takemitsu and Assistant Professor of Composition Annika Socolofsky.Ìę
âOur studio chose to present an Earth Day concert as a way to celebrate the natural world and reflect on our place within the ecosystem,â says junior flute performance student Andrea Kloehn. âThe music weâre playing mirrors the diversity of both nature and humanity.â
She adds thatâthanks to the support of Music Advisory Board Chair Laurie Hathornââwe were able to commission two CU student composers to write pieces for this concert, Dianna Link and Conor Abbott Brown.â Their works are âFlutter,â composed by Link, and âWe Were Always Wolves,â composed by Brown.
Concludes Kloehn, âThe flute studio is excited to premiere these two pieces. âFlutterâÌęis a flute quartet, inspired by the monarch butterfly migration. âWe Were Always WolvesâÌędraws on the concept of the wolf pack to create a large-scale work for the whole flute studio.â
Weâre looking forward to seeing you there!
