Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy (EERE) Infrastructure, Disaster Preparedness, and Sustainable and Resilient Communities

Unpaid EERE intern in Washington DC for the Summer. Description below. They MUST apply online at the EERE student internship volunteer program (SIVP).

An EERE intern will help build a low income resilience baseline and will profile best practices and lessons learned from stakeholdersÌý(city, state, utility, NGOs) on low income resilience efforts.ÌýThe intern will gather information and data to build a baseline on how low income areas are affected by extreme weather events and how areas were able to rebuild efficiently while meeting the needs of low income areas.ÌýFor the baseline, the intern will attempt to answer the following questions through data collection, literature review, and interviews with a focus on identifying how the information can be useful to stakeholders: 1) What have historically caused outages for vulnerable communities? 2) Where are low income customers located? 3) What state policies/initiatives exist to increase resiliency in LMI communities?Ìý
The intern will also collect and illustrate various preventative measures practiced by stakeholders to protect and strengthen low income areas in an event of an extreme weather event. In addition, the intern will highlight lessons learned and best practices in the rebuild of a low income community after an extreme weather event. For this process, the intern will interview stakeholders on policies and initiatives to increase resilience in low income communities, highlight different partnerships that have coordinated to serve low income communities before, during, and after an extreme weather event, and outline gaps and barriers for increased resilience and technology improvements for low income communities.Ìý
