Environmental engineering major Maddie Karr, the designerÌýof a new mural that will hang in theÌýEngineering Center lobby, shares the inspiration behind her design.

The finished abstract mural, painted on canvas

Each individual has their own unique background, identity and experiences. The intersectionality between race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and more is what brings diversity. These are among the many factors that shape people and give them unique perspectives. My mural recognizes that each person who is part of the engineering community brings their own brilliance and talents to share both inside and outside the classroom. When people enter the Engineering Center, their brilliance is embraced and combined with high-tier education, which results in a new kind of brilliance. The intense brightness shines the way for our future. This light and knowledge will take different paths, but nevertheless, these future engineers will illuminate the way. Together we have a shared vision of positive impact."
