Two Social Studies Teacher Ed alumni, Christy Hayashi and Corey Wiggins, have been honored with teaching awards. Christy, who became an alumna in 2011, was chosen as the Senior Class Staff Member for the class of 2015 at in Westminster.

“Her impact goes above and beyond the curriculum in the classroom.  Christy is a hard-working, caring, and dedicated teacher that devotes her life to impacting students and their future.  You will often find Ms. Hayashi in the stands at many of our sporting and activity events and even works as our event manager for the hockey games.  Christy is a SLHS alumna and continues to give back to a community that means so much to her!  She’s a tremendous teacher and an incredible asset to both our school and to the SLHS community.”

Corey Wiggins, who graduated more recently in 2013, was named “Teacher of the Year” at l in Aurora.

“Corey is a dedicated teacher that strives for excellence.  He brings such positive energy and professionalism to his work and that is why his students and colleagues love him!  He is an incredible asset to the Gateway Community and the field of Education!”
